After we went to the Atlanta Food Bloggers Bake Sale, we had lunch at South City Kitchen Midtown. It was very close to the Alliance Theater and was so good, that I’m really glad we went. It’s on Crescent Street and in a little house so the atmosphere was quite nice on a sunny Saturday afternoon. We walked in and were seated immediately, and had a GREAT server. I like it when servers have a great sense of humor, and she certainly did. I was a server for a long long time and you really need a sense of humor to survive some days.
I honestly had the hardest time deciding between the PIMENTO CHEESE corn crackers, pickles, celery and the FRIED GREEN TOMATOES goat cheese, red pepper coulis. Chad isn’t a huge fan of either ( I know, I know… how is that possible ), so I made the call and got the Fried Green Tomatoes-GLAD I DID. WOW! They get the tomato, and cover it with goat cheese, then they batter it up with panko THEN fry it so that the goat cheese gets all melty! The red pepper coulis is the perfect touch to the tartness of the tomato. YUM
For lunch we both ordered the BUTTERMILK FRIED CHICKEN garlic collard greens, bliss potatoes, honey-thyme jus. The chicken was cooked to perfection, nice and crispy on the outside and moist and juicy on the inside. The greens were excellent with the right amount of garlic same with the potatoes. Heaven on a plate.
We also ordered a side of Fried Okra, but after the Fried green tomatoes and chicken we were much to full to finish the okra. It was cut long ways not the usual bite sized pieces, which I like as a change from the usual.
If you haven’t tried South City Kitchen, you should. There is a location in Midtown and Vinings. It’s good food, and all I can say is that I really had great service. If I can get the girl’s name again, I’ll update this post so she can get kudos for being such a good server!
